HOW TO THRIVE IN YOUR PROBATION

Starting a new job can be an exciting yet nerve-wracking experience, and often can come with challenges and uncertainties. However, with the right mindset and approach, you can thrive during this crucial phase of your professional journey and beyond.

Probationary periods exist for Employers to evaluate your suitability for the role and assess your ability to meet the company's expectations. As an Employee, this is a period of time where you also get to “feel out” the company culture and decide if you are confident and satisfied with your work and responsibilities.

Traditionally, the probation period is a period of time where there is assumed more structure and tracked process, however it is important to remember that the more you can show initiative and willingness to learn from the get-go, the more your Employee will value your contribution and attitude to the work environment.

We’ve put together some valuable insights and tips to help you make the most of your probation, and set the stage for a successful career ahead.

🔹 Clarify Expectations

During your probation, seek clarity regarding your role, responsibilities, and performance metrics. Have open discussions with your Supervisor or Manager to align expectations and goals. Understanding what is expected of you, will help you focus on the right areas and prioritise your efforts effectively.

🔹 Communicate and Seek Feedback

Actively seek feedback on your performance, strengths, and areas for improvement. Proactively address any concerns or challenges you may face, and demonstrate your commitment to growth and development.

🔹 Be Proactive and Take Initiative

Don't limit yourself to the assigned tasks alone. Showing initiative displays your commitment, enthusiasm and willingness to go the extra mile, which is highly valued by employers.
